If you live in Wheaton or the surrounding Du-page area sump pumps have affected your quality of life. Most of the time we don’t pay any attention to that sump pump that keeps our basements dry and mold free, but when that sump pump stops working is hard to think of any thing else.
Sump pumps are our main line of defense when it comes to keeping ground water out of our Wheaton and Du-page homes. Most of us think that the only time to service or change sump pumps is when its too late and the water is coming in. Apple Plumbing Company wants you to know the average sump pump only has a life expectancy of 5 to 6 years. Sump pumps need to be serviced, inspected and tested every year to make sure they are working properly.
Along with standard plug in sump pumps another safety net is a back up sump pump. These pumps don’t directly rely on the electrical grid that seems to fail us at the worst times. There are many different styles of back up pumps most commonly ( BATTERY BACK UP SUMP PUMPS ). Battery back up units are a great line of defense against loss of power, primary pump failure, or just when the primary isn’t enough to keep up with those heavy rains.
Besides Battery back up units we also install hydro powered back up sump pumps. These sump pumps are powered by the incoming water service from the city. They don’t relay on electricity at all, they require a dedicated water tie into the potable water supply. Zoeller Sump pumps, Battery back up pumps, and ejector pumps are what we instal for numerous reasons. Zoeller pumps are built with the highest quality parts and materials. Primary and ejector pumps have cast iron body assemblies (not plastic). they are built in the USA and have the tried and true hard plastic ball float switch that has the lowest fail rate in the industry.
Check valves are another thing most people over look the are another essential part of the pumping process. The check valve allows the discharge water to be pumped out and closes when the pump turns off keeping the water out. We only install glue type check valves because they are of higher quality are upto code and have a no risk of slipping off the piping (unlike the rubber coupling style). They are well worth the investment for a few dollars extra knowing your risk of tens of thousand of water damage is eliminated.
